2011 Annual Inspection

The Hamilton County Engineer’s Office is responsible for clearing county roads of snow and ice.  County Engineer William Brayshaw’s crews stretch budget dollars by concentrating on the maintenance of existing snow removal equipment.  Well-maintained vehicles last longer, and money not spent replacing worn out and rusting trucks can be spent on manpower and salt.

Each year one day is set aside for inspection of county snow-removal vehicles, which includes plows and front-end loaders.  The trucks are lined up and Mr. Brayshaw, Chief Deputy Engineer Ted Hubbard and other supervisory staff make the rounds to the three county maintenance division facilities.  There they check out each truck and talk with the drivers.  At this time the upcoming winter route assignments are also distributed and drivers are checked for current commercial driver licenses (CDLs).  In looking at the line of county trucks it is obvious that they are cared for and well maintained.  Since the trucks are all to be inspected in this way, it becomes a source of pride for the drivers.  Each driver wants to look good next to his peers by presenting a clean and well maintained vehicle.
