What we do...

The Office of Budget and Strategic Initiatives is charged with developing and monitoring the Hamilton County budget as well as providing policy review and analysis support to the County Administrator and the Board of County Commissioners.  Our success is measured by developing and monitoring balanced budgets that address policy priorities in a fiscally responsible manner.  The county has been recognized for this success by receiving the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association for each of the past 14 years.

Key to the success of the office is fostering and maintaining effective working relationships with agency directors and fiscal staff.  Budget development and monitoring is a significant management responsibility; however, the budget processes must not interfere with the ability of agencies to succeed in their core missions and goals...especially for those departments that directly serve the public.  Successful budget processes combine good policy decisions with transparency for the needs of departments.

The Office of Budget and Strategic Initiatives supports significant multi-agency and multi-jurisdictional initiatives affecting county government.  Specifically, the office currently provides support to the Tax Levy Review Committee as well as the Competition and Efficiency Committee.  The office is also engaged with the criminal justice system review and the riverfront development efforts.

As a major urban county in Ohio, the office participates in the Comparable County Consortium.  This informal group of major urban counties in the state meets periodically to share common issues and solutions to current and emerging issues.
