Judge J. Howard Sundermann
Judge J. Howard Sundermann, Jr. is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, where he received his B.A. in 1963 and his J.D. from Georgetown Law School in 1966. He served as a U.S. Army Captain from 1966-1968 and practiced law in Cincinnati from 1969-1979.
Judge Sundermannís professional and service contributions include the Cincinnati Board of Education from 1975-1979; the Cincinnati Recreation Commission in 1979; the Cincinnati and Ohio Bar Associations from 1969-present; Executive Committee from 1986-1987. He is a former member of the Cincinnatus Society, Leadership Cincinnati, and is currently an Adjunct Professor of law at the University of Cincinnati.
Before being elected to the First District Court of Appeals in 1995, Judge Sundermann was a Judge of the Hamilton County Municipal Court from 1980-1988, and a Judge of the Hamilton County Common Pleas Court from 1988-1995. He served as the Presiding Judge for the Appellate Court in 1998, 2003 and 2008.
Judge Sundermann and his wife, Lynn, a former school principal, live in Cincinnati, and have three children, David, Michael, and Betsy. Judge and Mrs. Sundermann also have one grandchild.
