About this project | The Five Es | Why We're Doing This | Who is involved
Hamilton County and the City of Cincinnati are beginning an exciting new project that will make our communities better for bicycling, provide different transportation options, improve public health, and enhance our quality of life. They are joined in this effort by the First Suburbs Consortium of Southwest Ohio comprising 26 suburban communities surrounding Cincinnati.
The project is called Bicycle Friendly Communities and is sponsored by the League of American Bicyclists (LAB). It provides incentives, technical assistance, and awards for municipalities that actively support bicycling. We are joining 96 other cities across the country that are working to make bicycling a viable transportation option for their residents. Our goal is to be recognized as the first Bicycle Friendly Community in Ohio by League of American Bicyclists.
Cincinnati is learning that bicycling can be much more than a sport. Almost any transportation need can be met by riding a bike. Cyclists ride for commuting, running errands, transporting people and stuff wherever needed, and get a great workout while doing it. People in cities around the world and a few in America understand this potential and travel by bicycle whenever they can. They are healthier and their communities are better places to live because of it.
