- Position Available: Reference Librarian
The Hamilton County Law Library (Cincinnati, Ohio) is seeking applicants for the position of Reference Librarian. Located in the Hamilton County Courthouse and in service to Hamilton County’s legal community since 1837, the Law Library provides legal information resources and services to the courts, elected and appointed officials, attorneys, and the general public. The Law Library seeks a highly motivated, experienced, and enthusiastic reference librarian to join the staff in providing research guidance and services to its user community. This is a full-time (35 hours per week with a typical schedule of 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.)
Responsibilities (brief summary)
The primary responsibility of the Reference Librarian is to support the Law Librarian & Director, staff, and library users by providing excellent reference services. The Reference Librarian serves as reference team leader by providing direction in the development and implementation of goals for reference services. The Reference Librarian coordinates and participates in the daily reference desk rotation, edits the monthly newsletter, coordinates the CLE schedule and offers and schedules other user training, participates in collection review and development, produce print and digital research guides and user aids, contributes content to the library’s website and social media sites, coordinates interlibrary loan, collects and maintains reference-related statistics, and occasionally participates in staff-wide projects like inventory and stack maintenance. The Reference Librarian is expected to engage professionally.
Qualifications
Required: MLS or MLIS from an ALA-accredited program, relevant experience in a law library for a minimum of two years, strong service and team orientation, written and oral communication skills, demonstrated experience with standard library computer systems and applications, demonstrated experience with standard print and online legal resources.
Preferred: Working knowledge of and interest in information technology and trends including website content management, blogs, and social media, experience with Publisher or equivalent, teaching or training experience, knowledge of Ohio law and court processes, demonstrated ability to work with a wide variety of patrons, demonstrated commitment to collegiality and cooperation, experience in collection review and development, experience in team leadership.
Salary and Benefits
Salary range: $39,000 minimum-$41,000 maximum, commensurate with education, skills, and experience. The benefits offered by Hamilton County are at http://www.hamiltoncountyohio.gov/hr/Benefits/BenefitsHome.asp
