What we do...

The Hamilton County Department of Community Development was established by the Board of County Commissioners to administer the Community Development program and to implement Board policy in accordance with the rules and regulations of the Act. With a population of over 200,000 in its particular territory, Hamilton County qualifies as an "urban county" for an annual entitlement grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Each year the Board of County Commissioners must file an application by January 15 for HUD approval by March 1, the beginning of the County's CD program year.

On August 22, 1974, the Congress of the United States enacted the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974, establishing a program of Community Development grants available to local governments. The primary objective of the Act is to foster development of viable urban communities by providing decent housing, suitable living environments, and expanded economic opportunities, principally for persons of low and moderate income.
