Biography

Pat DeWine was sworn in as a Hamilton County Commissioner on January 3, 2005 and has proudly served taxpayers since 1999 when he was first elected to Cincinnati City Council.

Pat has a proven record of fighting out-of-control government spending and taxes, exposing wasteful insider deals and working for improved public safety. He brings those same values to the County Commission. Some of Pat’s Accomplishments:

• Led the fight for a property tax rollback every year – so taxpayers would not have their property taxes increased with increased home valuations
• Saved taxpayers millions by cracking down on employee abuses in cell phones, employee travel, take home cars and overtime
• Fought to eliminate excessive regulations and unnecessary bureaucracy. Pat authored legislation completely eliminating 20% of the permits issued by city government
• Opposed and shed the light of truth on the Empire Theatre spending debacle, forcing the City to implement badly needed reforms in the Community Development Department
• Partnered with local banks to establish the Housing Development Fund, a public-private partnership that leveraged $100 million for housing development. The fund rehabilitates abandoned buildings, creates new housing and strengthens the area’s tax base. Over the ten-year life of the Fund, each dollar of public investment is expected to leverage at least $18 of private investment
• Introduced and passed legislation bringing managed competition to City Hall forcing agencies to compete with the private sector for the delivery of services. The first service put out for bid – street sweeping – resulted in a 70% increase in lane miles swept for the same price
