Implementation

The proposed master plan would be realized in phases. The first phase of development includes affordable and sustainable, mixed-use renovation of the Don's Crankshaft building as well as the creation of a courtyard on the lot at 122 East Liberty Street. This courtyard will serve as a meeting place as well as a means to access commercial and residential locations surrounding the lot.

The following phases will consist of the sustainable and affordable development of the additional mixed-use buildings in the master plan. Immediately preceding that 1601 & 1605 Main St. should be developed. These two projects will serve as anchors for the block and will aid in completion of the rest of the master plan. the five remaining buildings will be the third and final phase of the project. These must come last so that during construction the already completed structures can serve as temporary housing for the displaced residents of these remaining buildings. The completion of this final phase is key, seeing as these at least partially occupied buildings represent the existing neighborhood, (like Ms. Jackson's Salon, which has been in operation for 45 years) which must not be destroyed or threatened.

With the completion of the master plan, including the Cincinnati Center for Sustainable Design on the corner of Liberty and Main Streets, similar sustainable projects will likely begin to appear in the greater Cincinnati area.
