Take advantage of natural drainage features, if they exist rather than trying to design a storm water management plan that requires extensive earthmoving and re-contouring of the surface features.  These actions can destabilize sloping areas and can increase the amount of sediment released from the site.  Existing vegetation is holding site soils in place and also help slow down and treat storm water runoff.
