What to Bring

The APA Ohio, Cincinnati Section in partnership with the Butler County Department of Development, the City of Middletown Planning Department, and local universities will conduct a Community Planning Charrette on November 6, 2009 in the City of Middletown.

The purpose of the event is to celebrate World Town Planning Day and to promote planning in a local community. The charrette is an annual event where local planners, architects, economic development experts, realtors, and local college students come together for a day to work with and offer professional advice to a local city, village or neighborhood in hope that the ideas generated from the charrette will be used for future planning and community improvement endeavors.

Planners have always encouraged multiple forms of passenger transportation.  For the past 50 years in Ohio that has typically meant airplanes and automobiles.  In recent years there has been a movement at the state and federal levels to add passenger rail back into the equation.  This year’s World Town Planning Day Charrette will focus on the proposed 3C Passenger Rail stop in the City of Middletown.

Charrette participants will be assigned a working group based on professional skill, knowledge, and area of interest with the goal of having multi-disciplinary teams.  There will be a working group for each of the following initiatives:

 1. Potential land uses around the station

2. Connecting the station to the downtown

3. Intermodal connectivity to surrounding communities

4. Design of an intermodal hub
