Initiatives
1.)
Entry Identity/ Gateway / Branding:
There are eight entry points, by car, into Mt.
Healthy.
Five of these gateways have little or no
identification that makes a person clearly aware that they have entered or
left
Mt.
Healthy.
The Mt.
Healthy Steering Committee has resolved that these five entry points should
have a consistent appearance in color, wording, lighting, image, landscaping
and give this city a distinctive image/recognition.
The solutions must not impair traffic or
pedestrian movement.
Alternative solutions should be developed and
refinement of one recommendation is requested.
Participants may want to visit these entry
points.
2.)
Traffic Solutions for
Hamilton Avenue
-
Designs for Downtown Hamilton
Avenue
Hamilton Avenue
has existing traffic volumes that exceed it current design.
Left turn movement severely restricts movement along
Hamilton Avenue.
The exit from
Cross-
County Highway
connected to I-275 by
Hamilton
Avenue has generated new traffic demands.
Alternative solutions were evaluated in the
Comprehensive Plan and much concern about demolition of existing businesses and
residents was expressed.
Because the city’s street system is a grid with
alleys; there are many cars that short-cut through other local streets to get to
Compton and Adams Roads.
Left turns from the alleys are also very disruptive
during rush hours.
Parking along Perry and Harrison supports many of
the businesses; however, the parking on Hamilton is still desired
by many of the businesses.
It would also be appropriate for this focus group to
develop conceptual designs for the central business area of
Mt.
Healthy.
Widening the right-of-way may provide more
pedestrian and parking access or turning lanes.
3.)
Housing – Ownership vs. Renting
vs. Mobile Homes
There is a strong mix of housing types throughout
Mt.
Healthy:
there are multi-family units mixed within single-family houses, there is a broad
variety of housing types (size, age and architectural style).
There are three concentrated areas of multi-family
housing, along with smaller clusters of multi-family housing, that make the mix
in ownership vs. renter about 50/50%.
The community has expressed a desire to increase the
home ownership and improve home maintenance in
Mt.
Healthy.
This focus group should visit the four neighborhoods
and review the general housing conditions.
4.)
Redevelopment – Three underutilized areas:
·
Hilltop
Shopping Center
and vicinity (self-storage)
·
Adjacent to Cross-County at Hamilton Avenue
·
Compton Road –
east of Hamilton Avenue
Mt.
Healthy
is a mature city with very little undeveloped land.
There is potential for new develop and redevelop
sites at “pressure points”.
The three areas listed above are under pressure
to change and this group is asked to evaluate new land uses and design
alternative concepts for the use in these areas.
There are mixed uses within these areas and
there is no strong vision as to how they should be developed.
This group should assess existing conditions,
propose preferred land uses and design the scale of change.
Surrounding land uses should be considered and
buffering may be part of the concepts.
