Who is eligible for health care benefits?

For all health care benefits, EXCEPT MEDICAL INSURANCE, an eligible employee is a permanent, full-time employee, or one who is regularly scheduled in active pay status at least 30 hours per week. For Medical Insurance, an eligible employee is a permanent, full-time employee, or one who is regularly scheduled in active pay status at least 30 hours per week, and who is ineligible for alternate coverage. Temporary, intermittent, part-time (less than 30 hours per week), and seasonal employees are not eligible for group health insurance coverage regardless of the number of hours worked.

When do benefits become effective after a new employee begins employment?

There is a 90 day waiting period. Medical and dental coverage will become effective on the first day of the month following 90 days of continuous county service.

Changes coming for 2013 are outlined in a letter to employees mailed on 10/17/12.
