County employees can benefit from submitting their suggestions, no matter how big or how small. It is a well known fact that the best ideas for improvement come from within an organization's own workforce. Listed below are some of the implemented suggestions, both intangible and tangible, that have been submitted to the Fresh Ideas Program.
Employee suggested that the department use another vendor to purchase higher quality commercial grade containers needed for the Recycling-at-Work Program. Not only did this idea reduce the cost of each container, but provided for a higher quality product. First year annual cost savings: $597.50; employee received $200 cash award.
This suggestion proposed the elimination of postcards being sent to applicants who applied for jobs on-line. The purpose of the postcard was to acknowledge receipt of the application, but on-line applicants receive an electronic response immediately upon submitting their application. This idea saved on costs for postage and supplies, as well as increasing productivity. Annual cost savings $560; employee was awarded one-day paid leave.
This idea proposed that when employee paychecks are mailed out, the employee's name and address are printed directly on the paycheck, rather than affixing a mailing label printed with the employee's name and address. Office supply costs were reduced with this suggestion. Annual savings were estimated at less than $199; employee's name entered into quarterly raffle drawing.
Employee suggested that prevailing wage services be offered to other government entities (i.e., counties, townships, etc.). The idea was implemented, but with caution, since the downturn in the economy affects future projects, which cannot be predicted. Estimated annual savings $1,320; employee received $200 cash award.
