| Job Function Statement: |
| Under direction of the Captain, supervises a unit within a major division of the Sheriff’s Department; supervises non-uniform officers and other employees within this unit as assigned. |

| Minimum Qualifications: |
| Possession of an Ohio Peace Officer’s Training Certificate and five (5) years experience in law enforcement, two (2) years of which have been in a supervisory capacity as a Sergeant; must possess a valid driver’s license issued by the state of residency. |

| Illustrative Duties: |
| 50-75% (1) Supervises a unit within the investigative division of the Sheriff’s Department which includes supervision of uniformed and non-uniformed officers and other employees as assigned (e.g., assigns and schedules work, trains employees, reviews and approves overtime, requests for leave, etc; evaluates performance, recommends discipline as necessary); oversees and coordinates operations; enforces departmental rules, regulations and policies; receives instructions from and discusses problems with superior officers; supervises employees in performance of duties and provides assistance as necessary; reviews evidence and reports submitted by subordinates in connection with investigations; conducts investigations of difficult criminal cases; inspects personnel; prepares and completes reports; operates with thorough technical knowledge of law enforcement work and uses independent judgment in performing duties.0-10% (2) Maintains and applies current technical knowledge to help solve problems; consults superior officer on certain problems encountered; provides written reports of department activities; assists in formation and enforcement of division operating procedures; assists in development of department-wide policies. 0-10% (3) Receives, coordinates and investigates complaints from other officials and the public; assists other law enforcement agencies in general police works as required. 0-5% (4) Supervises law enforcement work in connection with major emergencies and/or disasters as required; performs other related duties as required and directed.0-20% (5) Operates patrol car to conduct patrol activities as required, backs up patrol personnel when needed; operates communications equipment as required; uses electronic traffic monitoring devices as required; uses various weapons as required; investigates accidents and crime scenes as required; provides security checks of facilities as required; apprehends criminals as required.0-20% (6) Performs duties of a supervisor in Corrections, Detective Bureau or Civil Division as assigned. |
