The Educational Services component of Hillcrest Training School began in 1999 with our Charter School. The campus underwent changes to encompass the educational program as another element in the treatment of residents at Hillcrest. Since the school’s inception, ensuring the success of the educational component has been a goal embraced by the entire Hillcrest Staff.
The Educational Services department of Hillcrest Training School is a professional team of dedicated educators. We will meet the individual needs of our students with a challenging education and positive, multidisciplinary curriculum. We will equip students with the skills and attitudes to become productive members of their families, schools, communities, and society.
Academics
All residents are required to participate in an educational program that is chartered by the Ohio Department of Education, accredited from elementary through high school levels, and offers a comprehensive curriculum. Each educational program is individualized. The school operates year round. All credits earned apply toward a high school diploma. Students are prepared for state proficiency tests and the Ohio Graduation Tests (OGT).

Special Education
Hillcrest Training School accommodates its academic offerings to the needs of students who come from special education environments. Although Hillcrest is a categorically different type of placement, we meet the objective and goals of all students' Individualized Education Plans (IEP). Our basic model is inclusion. Our teachers and instructional assistants are trained to deliver instruction to meet each student's needs. We also maintain special classes for students with the lowest educational deficits or severe behavioral problems. An educational psychologist and special education department maintain the Multi-factored Evaluations (MFEs) and IEPs of those students who have those documents when placed.
Grading System
Individual academic progress is recorded through a letter grade.
Open House
Open houses are held periodically for students, residential staff, and families of the students.
Honor Roll
Eligibility for the honor roll includes straight "A" academic performances and "B" honors for a "B" average.
Services
School Services include scholarships, job placement, transitional living services, GED preparation, and academic counseling.
