Hamilton County to Launch 'Operation Green Light' in Support of Local Veterans

Operation Green Light - Shine a light of home and support for veterans

With the Veterans Day holiday fast approaching, Hamilton County is announcing that county buildings will be illuminated green November 7th through November 13th as part of Operation Green Light, to support veterans. Operation Green Light is a new national collaborative initiative of the National Association of Counties (NACo) to shine a light of appreciation on military veterans, as well as raise awareness about the unique challenges faced by many veterans and the resources that are available at the county, state, and federal level to assist veterans and their families.

Hamilton County will light green the Hamilton County Courthouse (1000 Main St.) and the Times-Star Building (800 Broadway- home to Juvenile Court).

"By shining a green light, we let our veterans know that they are appreciated, supported, and valued for their immense contributions and sacrifices," said Board of County Commissioners President Stephanie Summerow Dumas. "We would like to collectively thank our nation’s military force members and their families, for their public service in the name of keeping us safe and secure."

"We want to make sure our veterans and their families know that we are grateful for their sacrifices, and that we must make sure they are supported," said Commission Vice President Alicia Reece. "Therefore, Hamilton County is uniting to honor our veterans by lighting up the County green for Operation Green Light."

"Lighting up green is a small way we can all show support to our veterans," said Commissioner Denise Driehaus. "We would also like Hamilton County to be known as one of the best places for veterans to work and continue their public service after they enter civilian life."

In addition to lighting county buildings, residents and businesses are encouraged to participate by simply changing one light bulb in their house to a green bulb. This can be an exterior light that neighbors and passersby see, or an interior light that sparks a conversation with friends. Share on social media, tag the County and use the hashtag #OperationGreenLight.
